... y/story arc in last year's Kaycee Awards. Two other stories by Jurgens were on the best story/story arc list for the 1997 Kaycees. _Superman_ #121, "They Call It Suicide Slum", had my vote for best story, as Superman dealt with gangs and violence. What made the story for me is when Jurgens has Clark, shirt open to reveal the Superman symbol on his chest, holding the injured young girl and then flying her to the hospital without changing into his costume. Those of you who remember when I used to post reviews on the Usenet will recall that one of my first reviews was of _Superman_ #121, which featured the infamous story, "They Call It Suicide Slum." A violently racist psychologist is going to speak at the Stanhope University Student Union, ...

... eo@biggs-gilmore.com) Hi, Jeff, sorry it took so long to respond, but I just read the section of this year's awards where you commented on _Superman_ #121 and included my response. I haven't looked at the issue in a while, and I apologize if one or two of my specifics are off, but I think I can remember the central disagreements I had with it. The worst aspect of the story is that the "happy ending" shows the lucky black family being rescued out of their neighborhood by a beneficent rich white guy (Mr. Jupiter from Jurgens' Titans) and plunked into another part of town. No indication that Jupiter's money, or the family's time, might be better spe ...
