... etching careers. The ending (which I won't spoil) is also a fun little twist to the story. Jurgens 'stretches' his theme a bit too much in _Superman_ #120 when he has members of the Superman cast consider what they would do if they had his powers. The ending is a bit too pat and saccharine as a young boy gives the right answers and Superman flies away thinking, "I guess this really was a super day!" What makes the issue is the opening scene, with Luthor having a nightmare that his yet-to-be-born child will turn into a huge Superman fan, telling his father, "Superman's the number one guy on the whole planet!" and, "Bet you wish you wuz him!" After ...

... more interesting Luthor stories. If you want more information, see back issues of the Kryptonian Cybernet, or just go and buy the comics. _Superman_ #120 has a fun look at Luthor's fear that his unborn child will like Superman. During the _Final Night_ miniseries, Luthor returns to Metropolis to help in the crisis (and to try to redeem himself with the public) and turns himself over to the police. In _Superman_ #126, he manipulates Superman into delivering the Kryptonite ring (which Superman had given to Batman for safekeeping). To distract the publicity of his trial, Luthor arranges, in _Adventures Of Superman_ #550, for Jimmy Olsen to air a sh ...

... Shield". Unlike some, I wasn't able to simply gloss over the story's inconsistencies. Instead, I gave the nod to "To Be a Superman", from _Superman_ #120. Who among us has not daydreamed of what we could do if we had the powers of the Man of Steel? It isn't just the powers that make a Hero, though -- you have to have the heart to go with it. (That's what DC says they've been trying to teach us with this whole Electri-Kal story line.) When Superman asks people what they would do if they had his powers, he is disappointed by their answers: super-reporter Perry White, super-scientist Emil Hamilton, and super-rock-star Jimmy Olsen. It is in the end ...

... the suit. We're watching Clark. Clark is still the main character. Clark is still the person behind the power. One of the recent issues of SUPERMAN (#120) explored the idea of someone other than Clark having the shield and powers of Superman. Each of the secondary characters proved the point that it takes a special man to be Superman. It takes a desire to see things put right. It takes a drive to do what has to be done even if loved ones will be left behind. The entire Doomsday incident of '93 proved that Clark had the drive and spirit to overcome any odds. It also proved that without the upbringing Clark received as a boy, he would have been a ...
