Soundtrack of Our Lives page:

It contains a bunch of guitar tabs for songs by
bob hund, Kent, Soundtrack of Our Lives, Yvonne,

Today's good news in a bundle - that's right, right here, right now.
* Mulu (UK) and Teens In Traffic (S) - FREE show December 4th
-----------------------------------------------------------
Quick note to those in Stockholm on December 4th (thursday):
MULU (UK) + TEENS IN TRAFFIC (S)
Stockholm - Studion
--== FREE ENTRANCE ==--
Thursday December 4th, at 20:00
MULU (formerly known as Juniper) on Dedicated is Laura Campbell
and Alan Edmunds - known for his remixes of Bjork, The Grid,
Utah Saints and Fluke. Their music is described by their label
as: "Boy/girl pop which has its finger as firmly on the pulse
of Bacharach class as it does heady trip-hop. Add a sprinkle of
Celtic flavoured folk moods, dress it up with shimmering melodies,
accesorize with subtle background touches and wrap it round Laura
Campbell's soulfully haunting expressive vocals and this is Annie
Lennox for the Dubstar generation."
* More MULU: http://www.dedicated.co.uk/mulu.html
* MULU will also play in Olso (N), John Dee - 5/12
and Copenhagen (DK), Rust - 6/12
TEENS IN TRAFFIC is Sara and Jonas from Lulea, Malte from
Ostersund and Jejo from Helsingborg. They met in Stockholm
through shared friends and shared interests, and today they
are all in a band together. Their music is described as
soft and pleasant pop, like balm for the ears.
* Lesbian Barby Scene (S)
-----------------------
Malmo-based "Lesbian Barbie Scene" recently received e-mail from major
US Barbie makers Mattel who threatened to sue the band if they did not
remove their homepage within five days. The band decided to change
their name instead, and are therefor called "Lesbian Barby Scene"
these days. A new demo is out right now called "Attack of The Killer
Duck", which can be obtained by e-mailing Amanda Casanellas (drums) at:
amandac@kajen.com. Homepage: http://www.kajen.com/~amandac/home.html
* Bent Spanner Arty Banner (S)
----------------------------
The Malmo rockers pass on the information that their forthcoming album
is delayed and will not be released before Christmas, as previously
stated. The new date is set for February 1998. To compensate, the
band is planning to release a 4-track 7" single in time for the
Christmas holidays.
* Robert Johnson & Punchdrunks (S)
--------------------------------
The mono surf heroes on the Strange Edge label on will play together
with favourites bob hund on the following dates on their tour:
10/12 Almhult Rocklands
11/12 Copenhagen Pumpehuset (DK)
12/12 Lund Palladium
13/12 Malmo KB
14/12 Stockholm Studion (all ages)
15/12 Stockholm Studion (age: 18+)
You might have seen them on TV 2 two weeks ago (Let's Go show) or
read the 4+ review in Aftonbladet or 4/5 review in Edge for their
third album "Aloha from Havana" released in October.
Check out their homepage for more information at:
http://www.birdnest.se/Robban/biografi_robban.htm
* Cessna (SF)
-----------
Tampere-based Cessna will have a track on the compilation CD given
away with the next issue of the Japanese magazine Beikoku Ongaku.
The song in question is "Continental Diner", taken from their double
3" CD "Bordeaux", released on Radio Khartoum this autumn. The band
has also finished working on their next release, a three-track 7"
single on the US label Fantastic Records. According to plan the
single should be released early 1998.
More Cessna info: http://www.sci.fi/~solaris/cessna/
* First Harvest - Greatest Unsigned 1997 (S)
------------------------------------------
Blekingska Nationen in Lund (S) ran a demo band contest throughout
the year, where the four best bands were to be included on a compilation
CD-EP, and play at the contest gala/release party. A few weeks ago,
Blekingska Nationen picked out the winners from more than 150 demo
tapes they had received, and the winners were (in no order):
* First Floor Power (Malmo)
* The Pang (Lund)
* Plastic Soul (Lund)
* Shallow Soundwave (Goteborg)
The gala/release party was held at (no surprise) the Blekingska Nationen
venue in Lund on November 28th, with the four bands performing on stage
in front of specially invited people from record labels and media as well
as the regular venue crowd. The first 250 guests received a copy of
the compilation for free. Only 400 copies were made, each one numbered
and each one with a somewhat different cover. The compilations that
were not given away at the gala are now the properties of the included
bands, so the only way to get a copy is to contact one of the bands.
The only band of the four I know has got a homepage w/contact info
is Shallow Soundwave: http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/shallow.html
And as you probably have guessed by now - yes, there will be a
"Second Harvest"! Starting in January 1998, Blekingska Nationen in
Lund will accept demo tapes from artists/bands who want to participate
in the Spring/Summer demo contest, ie. Second Harvest - Greatest
Unsigned 1998. If this is also a success, there will be a Third
Harvest (Autumn/Winter 1998) and so on.
Want to know more? Contact Bjorn Johnson at: stv92bjo@student1.lu.se
or send your demos directly to Blekingska Nationen at the address:
Blekingska nationen, att: Bandbokare, Masvagen 11, 227 33 Lund.
* Eskilstuna Popstad 98 (S)
-------------------------
Right now, no one within the arranger group for the Eskilstuna
Popstad 98 festivities are sleeping. As you might have read in
this column (?) Eskilstuna was voted Pop City in Sweden for 1998.
More info, only in Swedish unfortunately, can be found on the
web (see link section below)
The celebration party is held in Eskilstuna (of course) at
Stadshotellet between January 29 -> 31, and a load of bands
will play - a bunch on the main stage and nine local unsigned
bands on the "Demo stage". The nine unsigned bands have been
selected from 57 (!) local acts who submitted a demo tape each
to the arrangers.
A promo compilation CD with 15 local and 3 non-local bands will
also be made exclusively for the celebration party and by local
record label Strawberry Songs. A Popstad 98 program magazine
with information about the Eskilstuna bands and history is also
in the making.
The festivities does not only present a lot of bands, there will
also be contests, seminars, workshops and so on.
The full schedule will be released on December 9th, so stay tuned
to this place in space for more on this.

* Fidget (S)
----------
Daniel Claeson (guitar) of Fidget will visit the recently awarded
Pop City 98 Eskilstuna in March in order to hold a seminar about
how to work with demo tapes and everyhing surrounding that topic.
Should be a very interesting event.
* Gentle Tuesday (S)
------------------
Eskilstuna soft breeze-popsters Gentle Tuesday's latest 7" single
"What My Sister Wants", which was released in 500 copies on their
own label "A Boy Wonder Release" on October 6th, is not available
anymore. All the copies have been sold. Therefor, the band will
release a new 3-track 7" single at the end of December! More
Gentle Tuesday songs to the people!
* Lemonator (SF)
--------------
Their new EP "Pronounced Lemon Ate Her" was released on the band's
own label Grandpop Records on November 21st. The songs included
are: 'Shine', 'Picture Perfect Sky', 'Don't Know Mice Elf' and the
Police cover 'Next To You'. At the moment, the band is enjoying
their well deserved break, but Larry is working on his side
project The Krispies, who recently released their debut single
"(I'm On The) Radio/Dear Louise". An album with The Krispies is
planned for an early 1998 release on Zen Garden. Next up for
our friends in Lemonator is the release of their debut album
"Yellow" in Japan, possibly with two extra tracks - 'Round' and
'Picture Perfect Sky'.
More Lemonator: http://www.musicfinland.com/lemonator/
* Lousy (S)
---------
Tenhult/Goteborg-based Lo-fi smokers Lousy will appear on the
well-known Lund student radio pop show TANDEM on December 10th.
The band will play a couple of acoustic songs in the studio
between a Superchunk interview, loads of music and a "best of
the year" recap.

I have heard that K-PIST cancelled their gig that night. An injured drummer
was the reason, I think.

Subject: Eestipop
The list seems rather dead today. Wondering if it's working? As my "test"
message, I give you a little excerpt from a batch of reviews I recently did
for another forum. These are a couple of tapes which I got from
list-member Lauri Liivak, and I am rather impressed. I'd been hearing some
demos of Lauri's band over the summer, but this was the first time I saw
actual produce from his label. And I must say that it's all nicely done,
nicely packaged, as cassettes go. Unfortunately cassettes seem to be the
most viable format in Estonia, and that's a shame because this music
deserves a better format.
Bizarre "Cafe de Flor" cassette
Think of Doris Days (dreamy trip-pop) crossed with Dif Juz's "Extractions"
lp. Except that Bizarre are much more consistently good than Doris Days.
Boy/Girl vocals, sometimes the female vocals head into Virginia Astley
territory. Melodic and moody. There are a couple songs by them on the
last chain-tape Erik made, but I don't think "Summer Rain" is at all
representative of what I like about the band.
V/A: "Sue Darling is Back to Forwards" cassette.
not as consistent as the Bizarre album, but there are a few tracks here
which shouldn't be missed.
side one:
1. The Chance - remember the time
slow, sweet jangly guitars, nice vocals, kinda reminds of old ARKane.
2. Anacrones - Venus
3. Delusion - A Dream About You
both of these are a little to straight and macho for me.
4. Beat Boy - Girl
the name alone might tell you that this piece is rather cliched. Actually,
it's just the lyrics which don't seem to be saying much, a pastiche of
least-common-denominator pop lyrics. The music on the other hand, is quite
alright, and summed up with the vocals, not completely unlike Acid House
Kings and their subgenre of bedroom pop, with a slightly higher ratio of
synths to guitars. Change the lyrics into Estonian, and I'm sure that I
would really like this.
5. Karpeetor - Piping Frogman
sure to annoy some, but in find myself boogeying around to this one. Jews
harp, bagpipes, noisy lead guitar and lots drums, this doesn't fit the
"indie" genre at all, but it's is eclectic and independent.
6. Psychoterror - Ebanormaalne
now, when in first told you that in was listening to popmusic from Estonia,
this is probably what you were expecting. heavymetal. Next!
7. Tik - T.A.K.E.
if Yvonne are just Crispy Ambulance in disguise, than Tik are the Minny
Pops. Which is the better band to be. Of course, I don't have my Minny
Pops records anymore, but this is quite nice in small doses. If this is
unintelligible, think of nice drone pop a la early Factory with a very very
thick accent.
8. Afternooning Plague Family - Sue´s Seeds
predecessor to Bizarre, and good stuff it is. Lots of flutes, a bit on the
dubby aethereal side. not at all what i had expected though. as i had
been told that Bizarre's first album was more of a shoe-gazer affair. and
this track seems to have nothing to with that.
side two:
1. Isadora Flore - Make Up & Martini
lovely pop song, not quite cocktail, but classy all the same.
2. the Chance - The Way Your Mind Looks Through
3. Nyrok City - Watcha Back
4. Bizarre - Barcode Warrior 12
perhaps my favorite Bizarre track to date. huge dramatic sweep to this
one, it could a james bond theme for the nineties.
5. Pedigree - Red Angel Case
6. Flag - New Gear
7. von Suck - Vajuv Vesi
8. A.P.F. & Bizarre - Laizy Sun
more great flute-laced dubby breathy stuff.
the Bizarre album is the better deal, but i'd say the comp is worth the
price of admission for the Isadore Flore and Bizarre tracks alone.

at last...
this band has been helplessly boring for so many years.
they (or he) should have quit after BUG when the original setup was
splitted up or fired.
