You know... I'm incredibly sick of getting friggin' headaches when I'm
trying to do stuff. I have one right now, and I'm innocently trying to
get this stupid zine done on time. And I stink too. It's one of those
"damn, this headache is so bad, I'm sweating just sitting here". Of
course, the sweat could also be due to the fact that it's sweltering hot
in the damn house, and I'm sitting in a room with three running
computers and a bunch of other crap. A small room. A very small room.

Hey, look, leave me alone ... sheesh. You always make me feel bad. You
want me to leave the room, and then you'll complain about not receiving

NEW DEVIL SHAT (#FiftySix): Many of you seemed to enjoy Rown Garnbii's
article last issue, so we signed him on to do a ten (!!) issue series
concerning those damnable Biblical Commandments. His first submission
starts this issue and suggests another series of well-read issues. But,
we don't stop there! No, no, no... we've got an article from hither
unknown Maggie Knowles and sadly, that Morbus guy is back again too.
NEW GHOST SITES (#30): Steve Baldwin's going on a road tour? Huh? Find
out the scoop with the newest issue of Ghost Sites, fresh off the
presses. Find out about TexMex bands, a geek's death (albeit
innovative), and more of the death you've shown us you love. Find out
what sites will mysteriously disappear after their traffic suddenly
skyrockets...
NEW NETSLAVES: An interview this issue with Lorie Simms, webmistress of
GrownupGirl.com. She writes, edits and codes HTML and Javascript like
any good NetSlave, with the difference being that instead of doing it
for an Internet company, Lorie labors at her own private venture which
some have labeled "pornography." Definitely for age 18 or above.
NETSLAVES MAILING LIST: In a pathetic attempt to "catch up" with the
digest versions of the NetSlaves Mailing List over at onelist.com,
another two months were added to the archives on Disobey. Why does it
take so long? Because each archive is screened for extraneous quoting,
stupid advertisements, and other wastes of space and then purified for
your enjoyment. It's because I love you.
LOW BANDWIDTH UPDATED: Low Bandwidth had a huge amount of site wide
updates this past month, most of them happening within days of one
another as Morbus chooses this way and that to reduce scrolling. Finally
settling ("never! never!" he screams) on a idea, he's also added four
new listings and made some other minor changes. Also, I am pleasantly
surprised by the amount of advertising interest there has been Low
Bandwidth - has helped me through some rather poor times, and makes the
new computer seem so much closer.
MORE KUDOS: More Kudos were added to Disobey, including a flurry of
missing NetSlaves news, as well as a new award given to Ghost Sites.
Keep telling the world about Disobey, because "ooooh, it feels sooo
goood". (And no, I don't know why that is in quotes. I don't even know
if someone said, but I had this pathetic idea of THE MASK saying it.
Which he didn't. Hrm.)
POCKET LINT IS COMING: Those "in the know" have known for a while that
I've been working on a CD being a collection of all the little things
I've been collecting over the years: images, text files, sounds, zines,
whatever. I've been calling it "Pocket Lint". Assuming that the final
pieces fall into place, within a couple of months, this CD should be
available for the rest of the world to partake in as well. Cross your
finger and hope that my CD burner can take the load of 50,000 teeny tiny
files at once.
NEW MAILING LIST MANAGER: I've been battling with it for the past couple
of months, but I've finally wrangled Majordomo into an acceptable
position to take over the task of subscribing and unsubscribing you
folks from the mailing lists. (And you know, once it's working right,
it does its job pretty well. If I can ever get my old Linux machine to
compile the code correctly, I'll also be playing around with development
version of Majordomo 2)...

NEW PLAYSTATION GAMES: I went crazy on Playstation games - it's really
the first time I exploited the fact that once you lay down some cash at
Electronics Boutique, you basically have access to a huge video game
library. Sure, they're "used", and in most cases there is a damn good
reason why the person got rid of them, but who the hell cares? Games
that came in and quickly went back out due to boredom, suckiness or "bwa
ha ha!" were ROLLCAGE, DUNGEON KEEPER, MDK and JETMOTO 2. Games that
stayed were SPYRO and SILENT HILL. And everyone knows that FINAL FANTASY
VIII will be part of the collection soon...
NOW, I KNOW: You don't really care, but two new CDs that I obtained
month were the new POWERMAN 5000 (whom John and I were introduced to
years ago by Dan Hansche) and an old rereleased MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL
KILL KULT. I'm still looking for HALLOWEEN HOOTENANY which doesn't seem
to be in stores at all... sigh... It's not that I even LIKE surf rock,
but still...
NEW MAGAZINES: I bought some new magazines for the first time in a
while. One being called PARANOIA (exactly how it sounds and brought me
quite a chuckle), another called ADBUSTERS I had been following on the
net for a while (they created BUY NOTHING day, coming soon) and I've
been getting back into video games rather heavily so I bought
PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE (nothing exciting to say about this one). I should
start up a reading list just like Oprah. That'd be pretty funny.
I'M PATHETIC: See, there's a Border's near town here, and they have
these really good sales at times. So, I was wondering in that direction
when I noticed that they had Dilbert books on sale. A LOT of Dilbert
books on sale. Armed with a fistful of dough, I bought all of them for
dirt cheap. I've read more Dilbert in the last month than I care to
admit.
GOING TO THE "DEVIL": I've always liked Eudora Pro for my email program
- I've been using that since day one. When the mailing lists Disobey
publishes started getting a little too large (and the rumors that Eudora
Pro was dying were at a particularly loud level) I started looking for
other email programs. That was fun because none of them did exactly what
I wanted them to - especially with mailing lists. To cut a long story
short: I finally decided months ago that it was either Eudora or Outlook
Express. I stuck with Eudora. It was comfortable. However, after finally
automating the mailing lists at the server end, I have made the
transition to Outlook Express. Gasp! Why go to the "devil" that is
Microsoft? First, I need change. I get in a rut using the same software
over and over again. Secondly, there is no need to depend on Eudora any
more - the one feature I needed (mailing lists) is no longer necessary.
Thirdly, the 5.0 version of OE for the Mac looks really, really good
whereas the new betas for Eudora seemed to mostly be bug fixes and crap
I care less about. (You know, this paragraph is much too long). Anyways,
it all came down to the fact that OE had more features that I liked, and
the only thing holding me back months ago (mailing lists) was no longer
an issue. The "devil" just made a tastier email program (who cares who
made it - it's all about using it!).
REDHAT, BLACKHAT, CHIMP23: I finally trashed my final desktop that had
Windows 95 on it (just the laptop now) and installed Redhat 6.0. Went
pretty smoothly, even though my hardware is about six years old, and it
took some research to find out the right parameters for the CD-ROM.
Still haven't got my sound card working, but that's to be expected on
this piece of crap. One question for anyone who knows: what console font
can I use to get the ANSI blocks and lines used to create ANSI art from
the old BBS days? I can get them in X, but not on the console. Been
reading documentation like crazy as well...
I LOVE SOFTWARE: I love software. I love getting the latest versions,
and I love randomly downloading crap that looks cool. Give me a week
with a new machine, and I'll be sitting there getting the newest
versions, downloading new stuff, and just all around trying to tweak the
life of it. But lemme tell ya a story about a software upgrade that you
should definitely not get: IMAGEREADY 2.0 from Adobe. I should've known
that when they packaged it with the new PHOTOSHOP as opposed to
releasing it separately that something was wrong. But no... I had to try
it anyways. Bring on the immense memory usage, the constant crashes, the
idiotic saving mechanism. and many more ending in one final shout:
"delete, Delete, DELETE!!" The new "features" they added in were just
not worth it. So, for the first time in my life, I downgraded to
IMAGEREADY 1.0. Don't tell anyone.

[Five-Minute-Fun-of-the-Week]-= Text To Speech
---I've played with it a hundred times before, but having been bored,
---I once again installed "text to speech" on my machine, and had loads
---of fun playing with it. Reading webpages aloud. Or email. Or singing
---poorly written songs about being in bed and wanting mommy. Ah. The
---patheticness of being lonely, and using all your processor power to
---make "Victoria" sound only a bit more sensu... uhhh... human.
[Hair-Pulling-of-the-Week]-= Waiting for the Internet
---Most things on the Internet happen in near record time. The Internet
---never sleeps and all that. But lemme tell ya something, when you
---change the MX records of a domain, and you know that you're losing
---mail somewhere down the line, it's VERY frustrating and stressful
---waiting for everything to propagate. (In a nutshell, the MX records
---tell the Internet where to send email being delivered to a specific
---domain... in this case, Disobey.com. The whole Internet needs to
---know about this setting, and this can take as soon as half a day, to
---perhaps a day and a half.).
[Weak-Week-of-the-Week]-= Chico's Groove Idiocy
---You know, I just realized this now, but I'm still doing "of the week"s
---even though Chicos's Groove is now monthly. Not that they made any
---sense before because the Groove was NEVER weekly, but only bi-, but
---it's even MORE of a laughing matter now. Ah twell.
[No-Soda-of-the-Week]-= No, Really!
---You read it right. I haven't bought a 2 liter bottle of soda for
---home consumption in about a month. Instead, I've tried to save some
---money and instead have been guzzling water, sugar, and KoolAid Man's
---blood. Tastes really good, actually, although I haven't tried to dye
---my hair or nails with it. That's next issue.
[Neato-of-the-Week]-= Faster Server
---Disobey got moved to a faster server this week, one that I had the
---joys of building from the ground up (the software, not the hardware).

---where you can put your events that you think the rest of the Disobey
